there's a dessert that always reminds me of home. regardless of where i am. that's because my family loves this sweet treat, and we would make it often when ever i came home from college or when nick&i were living in dallas.
it's sooooo delish.
this recipe was handed down from one of my grandmother's friends. we made it the other night because my dad loved it. and my sister and i were craving it (obviously).
if you like pastry-like desserts, and are a fan of almond flavoring, this is a must try. it's super duper easy and uses ingredients you probably already have on hand. perfect for christmastime, or really any time.
almond puff
first layer:
* 1/2 c. butter, softened
* 1 c. flour
* 2 T. water
second layer:
* 1/2 c. butter, softened
* 1 c. water
* 1 t. almond extract
* 1 c. flour
* 3 eggs
glaze:
* 1 1/2 c. confectioners sugar
* 2 T. butter, softened
* 1 to 1 1/2 t almond extract
- for first layer: blend butter into flour. sprinkle with water, mix with fork. round into ball and divide in half. on ungreased baking sheet, pat each half into a 12x3 strip... should be about 3 inches apart.
- for second layer: heat butter and water in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil. remove from heat and quickly stir in almond extract and flour. stir vigorously until mixture forms a ball. allow to cool for a few minutes, beat in eggs one at a time. mix until smooth.
- divide in half and spread evenly over the two strips, covering completely.
- bake at 350 for about 30-45 minutes or until golden brown. cool.
- frost with glaze. cut a big 0le piece, pour yourself a cold glass of milk and enjoy. delicious.
